Journal 18

"It is utterly useless.....I entreat you not to reason with me anymore. take possesion of your tenement and let me fly from this place." page 127

this quote shows the mans job to do what is best for his family...

Journal 17

"Agatha fainted and Safie unable to attend to her friend rushed out of the cottage." page 123

this shows the weakness of the women and the need they have to be protected by the male figure of the house.

Journal 16

"the females were flying and the enraged Felix tearing me from his father's feet." page 126

the females flying implied weakness at hte sight of the monter and shows a 'gender specific weakness'. Felix is supposed to bethe protector and the strong man of the house and able to protect.

Journal 15

" he dashed me to the ground and stuck me violently with a stick" page 124

it is the mans job to be the protector of the house, gender roles

Journal 14

"Do not despair. To be friendless is indeed to be unfortunate, but the hearts of men, when unprejudiced by any obviouse self-interests are full of brotherly love and charity." pg. 122

the old man is talking to the monster...hes blind. um the common theme amoung men is that they can relate to one another... monster unsure if he can relate to any one because he does not look like them...he talks like a frenchman tho i find that interesting.

Journal 13

"But my chief delights delights were the sight of the flowers, the birds, all the gay apperal of summer...." pg. 120

i dont think ill be able to use this but i think its very interesting. thinking back through some of the earlier chapters i used i see some definate similarities between Victor and the monster. Victor loved summer and the warmth and all that and so does the monster. they are similar in many ways that i dont think either of them see

Journal 12

"I sickened as a read ' Hateful day when I recieved life!' I exclaimed in agony. " pg. 119

this gives the reader a look into the emotional state of the monster...not sure it relates to my theory but i like it none the less....

Journal 12

I veiwed the bliss of my protectors, the bitter gall of envy rose with in me." Pg. 118

humans are naturally jealouse of their neighbors and what they have...looks money wealth so on and so forth. not sure if i can use it but i would like to.

Journal 11

"Like Adam, I was apparently united by no link to any other being in excistance; but his state was far different from mine in every other respect." pg. 118

it compares the work of Victor to that of God. the monster realizes the difference, for example Adam created in own image... Eve...so on and so forth

Journal 10

"My person was hideous and my stature gigantic." pg. 117

this quote shows that the monster is very aware of how he looks and how it affects people around him. not sure if i can use it in my paper but it think it shows a good look into the monster

Journal 10

"I sympathized with and partly understood them, but was unformed in mind; i was dependent on none and related to none." page 117

i havent decided if i can use this one yet but i know that i like for some reason.

Journal 9

"The gentle and domestic manners it described combined with loft sentiments and feelings, which had for their object something out of self, accorded will with m experiences amoung my protectors and with the wants which were forever alive in my own bosom". Pg. 117

the books that he reads open up the feelings section of the monster. can maybe be used to discuss the way feelings affect different people...is it involved with gender

Journal 8

"As yet i looked upon crime as a distant evil, benevolance and generosity were ever present for me, inciting with in me to become an actor in the busy scene where so many admirable qualitieswere called forth and displayed" page 116

the monster learns more and more and is interested in the way people are supposed to act around eachother in a society. learns the roles peole have this opens up to gender specific roles and wh some people get some job blah blah blah...

Journal 7

"I learned from the views of social like which it developed, to admire thier virtues and to deprecate the vices of mankind". Pg. 116.

the monster is learning about people and the way they work...could lead into how they function as a society and the roles that people adopt which goes into is it gender specific.

Journal 6

“I had gazed on him while unfinished; he was ugly then, but when those muscles and joints were rendered capable of motion, it became a thing such as Dante could not have conceived” (pg. 44).

Again with the look thing...and how did he think the look would change?? its gonna be ugly dude.
Not sure yet how im gonna use it to show gender tho...maybe that man is so eager to think himself better and more advanced that they get carried away...idk yet

Journal 5

“No mortal could support the horror of that countenance.” (pg. 44).

How did he miss how ugly it was in the first place?? Did he think that bringing it to life would make it look better?? it shows how focused we are as a society on looks thi even back then.

Journal 4

“I became myself capable of bestowing animation upon lifeless matter” (pg. 38).

Not to sure if it shows gender and queer theories but it could show a God complex lol...havent decided if i wanna use it yet but i like it.

Journal 3

“I saw how the fine frame of man was degraded and wasted” (pg. 38).

Shows his obsession with the male figure-queer theories example. can be used to illustrate his focuz, drive, influence, or used to question his sexual prefereance and or orientation....

Journal 2

“My firmest hopes of future happiness were placed on the prospect of your union” (pg. 28).

Even on her death bed Victor's mother is concerned with his happiness and future. shows the adoring and caring mother and femine qualities that she is "programed" with.

Journal 1

“came as a protecting spirit to the poor girl, who committed herself to his care” (Shelley; pg. 118).

this quote shows the gentleness

frailty

weaknes

needyness

ect...

of women. Shows that she needed him. it also shows that he was an upstanding man and that he came to her aid and she was very greatfull......
